Time to say goodbye

- Executive Director, Settle Stories
Charles Tyrer

After 9 wonderful years I’m writing to let you know that i’m leaving Settle Stories to take on a new role as CEO of the Gregson Arts & Community Centre in Lancaster.

One of my all time favourite costumes where I dressed up as a star for our 2017 Star Party

I’m thrilled that Jane Rice-Bowen has been appointed in an interim role for the next 6 months to support the board, Sita, and the staff team as they navigate what’s next for Settle Stories. Jane is an experienced Arts Consultant and the Chair of Eureka! The National Children’s Museum. Her previous experience includes joint CEO of the National Centre of Circus Arts and Executive Director of Roadmender. So you’ll be in more than capable hands!

Settle Stories continues to go from strength to strength and i’m delighted to let you know that we are recruiting for a new role – Head of Sales and Business Development – to work on our new online learning platform – Storyversity.

My time here has been incredible and none of it would have been possible without your support. Together we have grown Settle Stories from an annual festival in Settle to an established arts organisation that runs year round work touching the lives of thousands of people each year.

Getting here hasn’t been easy – of course there’s been a lot of blood, sweat and tears but the rewards have made it all worthwhile.  From the bottom of my heart i’d like to say a huge thank you to you and our community for getting Settle Stories to where it is today.

Charles as Willy Wonka
Another all time favourite event has to be our Roald Dahl day where I got to dress up as Willy Wonka!

So many people put so much into Settle Stories because they share our belief that stories have the power to change lives. To those of you who have volunteered, attended events, given pro bono support and become members of Settle Stories – thank you! 9 years ago there were times I questioned if Settle Stories was viable here in one of the most rural parts of the country but our shared commitment has proven just what can be achieved with energy, enthusiasm and dedication.

I would recommend getting more involved with the Settle Stories family to everyone. The organisation is dependant on volunteers and donations. I will continue to be a member of Settle Stories. The financial support we’ve received from donations and members has been a literal life line. To maintain our reach and help Settle Stories grow members are critical. If you’re in a position to do so please sign up.

Charles dressed as a banana
Happy days – here’s when I dressed up as a banana for our Festival of Happiness!

This is a very exciting time for Settle Stories. I wish the board, Sita and all the staff and the new Head of Sales all the very best in continuing our mission to change lives with story.

Thank you once again storylovers.

Best Wishes,

Charles

P.S. Please share our  Head of Sales and Business Development role with friends and colleagues
