Most of us carry a soft companion from childhood – a doll, a teddy, something held close in the night.
With My Favourite Doll, we invited the people of Settle to share the stories bound up in those objects. We listened to voices young and old, discovering that these much-loved companions hold far more than stuffing and thread. They carry memories of comfort and loss, play and protection, and often open a doorway into deeper stories of who we were, and who we’ve become.
The stories gathered through the project were brought together in an exhibition at The Listening Gallery, and captured in a beautifully made book. You can listen to a selection of these stories below, and hear how small objects can hold big histories.
This project was made possible with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
