Free National Storytelling Week Events For Schools

National Storytelling Week is a moment to pause, listen and remember the power of story in the classroom. This year, we’re inviting primary schools across the UK to join us for three free National Storytelling Week events for schools, delivered live online and designed especially for EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

These sessions are short, engaging and easy to use. They fit neatly into the school day, require no preparation, and give pupils the chance to experience the shared joy of live storytelling. Whether you use them as an after lunch moment of quiet, a discussion point or a way to build bridges across the key stage, our free National Storytelling Week events for schools are built to support teachers and inspire children.

Why live storytelling matters in school

Storytelling isn’t just entertainment. It strengthens listening skills, builds vocabulary, supports emotional literacy and helps children make sense of the world. In busy classrooms, story offers a low-load, high-impact way to bring everyone together.

Our free National Storytelling Week events for schools are led by experienced professional storytellers who know how to hold a room, even through a screen. These are not recordings. They are live, responsive sessions where children are drawn into story in real time.

For teachers, that means:

  • No planning or resources to prepare
  • Clear age-appropriate content
  • Strong links to oracy, literacy and PSHE
  • A calm, engaging shared experience

What’s on: three free live events for primary schools

Each of our free National Storytelling Week events for schools runs for approximately 30 minutes and takes place at 1.30pm, making them easy to slot into the afternoon.

EYFS – The Three Little Pigs

Tuesday 3 February, 1.30pm

This much-loved story comes alive as the three pigs face the big bad wolf and learn the importance of working together. With houses of straw, sticks and bricks, this EYFS-friendly retelling highlights resilience, effort and perseverance in a way that young children instantly understand.

Perfect for early years listening, joining in, and introducing simple story structure through repetition and rhythm.

KS1 – The Princess and the Pea

Wednesday 4 February, 1.30pm

A rain-soaked visitor arrives at the castle claiming to be a princess. The queen decides to test the truth with a single pea hidden beneath a pile of mattresses. When the princess cannot sleep, the truth is revealed. This KS1 session explores honesty, empathy and not judging by appearances, supporting discussion around feelings, fairness and first impressions.

KS2 – The Chief’s Wedding

Thursday 5 February, 1.30pm

In this rich and thoughtful KS2 story, a chief dreams of lighting the night sky for his wedding.
