#YFOS22
4th — 27th November 2022
Free. Online. Everywhere.
“How can we use storytelling to respond to our most urgent threat – the climate emergency?”
This is the question driving this year’s Yorkshire Festival of Story. You are invited to explore it with us.
YFOS 22 will use epic and fairytales to connect us to our planet and consider how we can pave the way to a better future. We’re thrilled to welcome a diverse and eclectic mix of storytellers, authors, activists, artists, scientists and even a retired NASA astronaut to ignite the conversation and bring new perspectives on our environment.
Headliners include Booker Prize-winning author and Festival Guest Director Ben Okri OBE, the Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen, ‘Birdgirl’ Mya-Rose Craig, Alastair McIntosh, Complicité Theatre Company, Laura Simms, Professor Jack Zipes, Nothando Zulu and Margaret Read MacDonald. There are over 80 free, live events to choose from, both in-person and online.
There’s loads for schools and families too! Our Children’s Story Competition judge, Joanne Harris OBE FRSL, is reading your short stories now. And don’t miss events with Sinéad Burke, Dominic Kelly and Mara Menzies.
Once again Yorkshire Festival of Story is free and available to everyone, everywhere. We can’t wait to see you!

We would like to thank our new funders, Yorkshire-based B-Corp Comply Direct, a leading environmental consultancy and compliance scheme, who state that: “We are delighted to be supporting Settle Stories with their Yorkshire Festival of Story 2022. It is so important that we are highlighting and talking about our most urgent threat as a nation; the climate emergency. We are excited to see how this message can be delivered through the power of story, and the impact that can be realised.” The festival also wishes to thank the Falcon Manor in Settle, the Garfield Weston Foundation, Skipton Town Hall and Craven District Council, the Janet & Geoff Donnelly Foundation and the Key Fund, as well as main funders Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
