Calling all Teachers

Inspire a new generation of budding writers and unleash your pupil’s creativity and imagination with this inspiring, free teaching resource pack, created by Artistic Director of Settle Stories, Sita Brand.Poster for Children's Story Competition

If your class is between 7 and 11 years old and residents of the UK, they are eligible to enter an exciting new writing competition to mark the 10th birthday of the charity that is home of adventurous storytelling, Settle Stories. Running in conjunction with their Yorkshire Festival of Story from July 31st-August 2nd they are inviting children to submit stories to inspire the next generation of storytellers. The winning entries will not only will they have their stories exhibited at the festival, but they have their stories performed by a professional storyteller at the festival too. The opportunity to see their name in lights! Other prizes include a personal response from bestselling Author Cressida Cowell, How to Train your Dragon books, signed copies of her books and the winner’s school will also get a visit from a professional storyteller.

The only rules are that stories must be set in Yorkshire and be no more than 750 words, sometimes less is more!  Budding authors are encouraged to unleash their imagination and make the characters and plotline as memorable and exciting as they possibly can. The resource pack will give you plenty of handy hints and easy to use ideas for you to inspire your pupils and help get them scribbling.

Competition Judge Cressida Cowell is looking forward to reading all the amazing stories, so get your pupils writing and don’t forget to submit the stories via the website only by 22nd May 2020.
