Would you like to make a young writer’s dreams come true?
As part of Yorkshire Festival of Story 2021, we are searching for volunteer teachers and librarians to help us judge our Children’s Fairy Tale Competition in partnership with Hull Culture & Leisure Library Service. The competition is being judged by the legendary author Michael Morpurgo but we need your help with the initial shortlisting of entries.
YFOS is a unique online storytelling festival – Settle Stories flagship event. This year’s festival will use epic and folk tales to help us make sense of our lives beyond the pandemic. We’ll ask “If once upon a time starts now, how do we achieve happy ever after?” With this competition we’re looking for the next generation of great storytellers.
This year, our competition celebrates the magic and wonder of the natural world and asks young people to create a short fairy tale (up to 750 words) that features a tree or trees. The competition is open to 7-11 year olds across the country. You can find out more about it here.
We need your help to pick the best stories for the shortlist. As a volunteer reader you will receive around 30 stories and have two weeks to judge them. Are you or your friends up to the task? If so, contact Sarah at Settle Stories (sarah@settlestories.org.uk) to find out more.
