Placement Job Title: Communications Assistant
Location of placement: Available as an online remote placement or a mixture of remote and in person working at Settle Stories HQ – The Joinery, Dawsons Court, Market Place Settle BD24 9ED.

We present stories through events and the largest free online storytelling festival globally, Yorkshire Festival of Story. Our Learning Programmes connect people and enable the disinvested to have a voice.
We are an independent arts charity in one of the most rurally isolated parts of the UK.
Summary of Placement:
This is a unique opportunity to get work inside a small, ambitious arts & heritage charity that is working to make a real difference. The placement will suit a motivated, self-starter who will work directly with our experienced Executive Director. You will be supporting marketing & PR campaigns to engage new audiences with our work. You will learn how to promote cultural events and activities from start to finish. You will gain experience in creating blogs, online promotion, social media campaigns and have a go at creating press releases.
Days & Hours of Work:
Whether you’re doing this placement remotely or coming to our office we expect you to be part of the team whilst you’re with us. We start every day with a morning meeting at 9.30am and finish at 5.30pm. You’ll have a daily check in with your manager during the day.
If you’re joining us in our office part time we can be more flexible with start/finish times if you’re getting the train. We’ll discuss this if you’re successful after an interview. We can subsidies travel if subsidy is not available through your university. Our maximum allowance is £15 a day – travel subsidy is agreed in advance.
Duties to Include:
- Writing blogs including interviewing artists
- Researching new press contacts
- Creating social media content/campaigns
- Overseeing event listings
- Thinking up new and engaging ideas to reach new audiences
- Writing Press Releases
Person specification
Essential:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Excellent writing skills
- Understanding of social media
- Determination to see a project through
- Self-motivated and self-reliant but, at the same time, able to work in a team
- Ability to join in with whatever task needs doing
Desirable:
- Interest in stories and storytelling Interest in the arts / heritage sector
- Interest in promotion
