The Big Draw

Mapping Stories

Be part of creating something big and we mean BIG!

Create a large scale drawing instillation from rubbings collected from different surfaces from your adventures around Settle on the day. This session is for all you budding artists out there. This piece of art that you will grow together as a group knows no bounds. It will grow in whichever direction your imagination takes it and take over a large space in the Joinery. The finished piece will explore what makes Settle unique and be displayed in the Joinery, Settle Stories' new home, for everyone to see.

More about facilitator Simon Woolham:

Simon is an artist, lecturer, curator and PhD graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University. His primary practice is around expanded drawing. He has exhibited widely, including solo shows at the Lowry in Salford and Chapter Gallery in Cardiff, and in numerous national and international group exhibitions. He is the curator/artistic programmer of the artist-led gallery PAPER based in Manchester.

At the core of his practice is the collaborative exploration and encouragement of hidden human details, shared histories, stories associated with belonging and the relationship to specific places and spaces, providing a voice to often unheard vistas of history.
